ACCU Scheme consultation process underway

ICIN welcomes the release of proposed amendments by the Australian Government to reform the Australian Carbon Credit Unit (ACCU) Scheme. 

Our Members have advocated for improved recognition of the rights of Indigenous peoples to Free, Prior and Informed Consent (FPIC) for a carbon project on their Country since 2019.

The proposed changes include strengthening consent requirements by recognising registered native title claimants as eligible interest holders.

We are pleased to be undertaking consultations with Full Members and First Nations groups across Australia, please find all details below.


ICIN Full Member ACCU scheme consultation 

Next week, on Friday 8th May, ICIN is inviting representatives of Full Members to a consultation on these legislative changes. Members will be invited directly via an Outlook calendar invitation.

ICIN Indigenous consultation on ACCU scheme 

ICIN is seeking input from representatives of ICIN Associate Members and Indigenous organisations on the proposed ACCU Scheme legislative changes.

Location: Online, via Teams

Australian Government updates regarding this process 

ICIN encourages representatives from our membership and Indigenous organisations to register for information sessions hosted by the Government. Webinars will go into detail about the proposed amendments, with the department available to answer questions.
