The Network at Carbon Farming Industry Forum
ICIN directors and staff attended the 10th Carbon Farming Industry Forum hosted by the Carbon Market Institute last month in Boorloo/Perth. The team used this opportunity to advocate for increased opportunities for Indigenous people in the carbon industry, delivering statements to the Forum, speaking in plenary sessions and facilitating workshops.

Guidance on agreement making launched at AIATSIS
Have you ever wondered about what goes into governance and decision-making for Indigenous carbon projects?
At the 2026 AIATSIS Summit, held on the lands of the Kombumerri, Yugambeh Country/Gold Coast, ICIN launched an Guidance on Agreement Making for Indigenous carbon projects. It is informed by expert legal advice and input from Indigenous people right across Australia.

Joint Standing Committee: ICIN invited to present
In early June, ICIN was invited to attend a public hearing on the ‘Preparing for emerging industries across Northern Australia inquiry’, held by the Joint Standing Committee on Northern Australia (the committee).
During the hearing, ICIN highlighted the significant contribution that Indigenous-led carbon projects are making to environmental outcomes, regional economic development and employment across Northern Australia.

Savanna fire in the nature repair market
In partnership with the North Australian Indigenous Land and Sea Management Alliance and Charles Darwin University, ICIN facilitated a workshop for the Savanna Fire and Biodiversity Project late last month.
The workshop supported foundational information sharing to inform the potential development of a new nature repair method to protect biodiversity using savanna fire management.

Submission on proposed ACCU Scheme changes
ICIN made a submission on proposed ACCU scheme amendments to increase integrity and transparency. Our submission welcomed these reforms, but called for clearer definitions, stronger consent processes and greater accountability for project proponents.

Carbon farming workshop EOIs open
ICIN is delivering carbon farming workshops to share information about the carbon industry, and opportunities available for Indigenous people to participate.
The most recent workshop was delivered in Boorloo with 86% of attendees reporting in the evaluation that the resources presented were useful for delivering training to Indigenous people.
These workshops are delivered under the Carbon Farming Outreach Program funded by the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment, and Water.
