New mapping tool launched to help savanna fire managers

A new application is now available to support near real time tracking of fires and better fire management planning. The North Australian Fire Information - NAFI service is critical to support Indigenous ranger groups to plan and track their savanna fire management throughout their project areas using remote sensing satellite technology as well as to keep an eye on hot fires happening nearby which could spread.

The new NAFI QGIS Plugin will provide an opportunity for more sophisticated planning with NAFI data and a portal for building GIS capacity amongst land managers already using NAFI.

ICIN is part of a working group representing users of NAFI who are advocating for greater resources to support the NAFI service in the long-term.
