On Monday 5th June, we were delighted to meet with the Hon Chris Bowen MP on Gadigal country. The ICIN Co-Chair Dean Yibarbuk, Board Director Teddy Bernard, CEO Anna Boustead and Dr Jennifer Ansell of ALFA NT travelled from Cape York and Arnhem Land to discuss the inspiring work of Indigenous-led carbon projects.
We shared critical achievements of ICIN, such as providing free and independent information for First Nations groups about the industry, informing climate change policy developments and delivering Indigenous-led forums that provide a safe space for discussion about savanna fire management and the carbon industry.
We underscored the need for Government to progress the 2023 Savanna Fire Management Method, which is informed by new science. This is also a unique opportunity to better support Indigenous-led carbon projects that heal country and benefit communities.
We look forward to taking the Minister out on Country soon, to show him the wide-ranging benefits and high integrity of carbon projects held by First Nations people.
