The Savanna Carbon Accounting Model (SavCAM) tool is open for user testing
What is SavCAM?
On 13 June, the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water (DCCEEW) released the Savanna Carbon Accounting Model (SavCAM). This is a new tool that will be used to calculate greenhouse gas abatement under the new savanna fire management methods that the government is working on at the moment. SavCAM will be used in the same way that members currently use SavBAT for their savanna fire management projects- but for these new methods. More information about SavCAM is on DCCEEW's website here.
Why is it important to test SavCAM and give feedback?
This tool will be the only tool that can be used to calculate abatement for a project under the new savanna fire management methods, so we want to make sure that it is working well and easy for our members to use.
How can I test SavCAM?
You can access SavCAM at this link- https://savtools.dcceew.gov.au - click on the button ‘SavCAM 1.0’. It is important to note that it can take quite a long time to get a report emailed to you - even up to a day.
How can I give my feedback?
There are a few different ways to give feedback:
- Give feedback at ICIN Member meetings, ICIN Policy WG meetings, or the ICIN Member workshop on SavCAM in July (invites will go out shortly).
- Give feedback straight to the government at this email address - [email protected].
How long will I have to test and give feedback?
Government has said they will take feedback from users on SavCAM until the end of the consultation period on the methods. We don't know when this is yet, but it will be at least several months, and we will tell members when we know.
