About Kowanyama Land Management Office

Since its inception in 1991, the Kowanyama Aboriginal Land and Natural Resources Management Office (KALNRMO Land Office) has operated on a charter to support and facilitate Aboriginal management of the natural and cultural resources of Kowanyama land and sea country by the people of Kowanyama. 

The Kowanyama carbon project is:

Working through KALNRMO, the Kowanyama Rangers conduct savanna burning to earn carbon credits and improve land condition for culture and biodiversity. They implement land management strategies in many areas of the DOGIT (land trust), including patrolling open and closed waters for illegal commercial or recreational fishing, as well as tourism and visitor management.
