2025 CEO reflections and holiday closure dates
2025 was a huge year of growth for the Network.
I am very grateful for the ongoing support of our hard-working team, and the leadership of our Directors and members. I look forward to working together with you all in 2026 as we continue to build the network’s capability to support its members and grow opportunities to support Indigenous land and sea managers to access carbon and environmental markets.
On behalf of our Directors and staff team, we wish you a safe and restful holiday season, and we look forward to seeing you all in the new year.
The ICIN office will be closed from 22 December until 5 January.

ICIN's 4th AGM held at Gulkula
On beautiful Miwatj country, more than 50 people gathered in person and online to attend ICIN's 4th annual general meeting. The ICIN AGM is an opportunity for Full Members to elect directors of the board, and for all members to receive the audited financial statements, hear an update on the year's work against the organisation's strategic plan and have a say on next year's operational plan.
We are pleased to welcome Tristin Maroney as our newly elected board member. Tristin is a Board Director of ALFA NT,and is the Jawyon Association Ranger Coordinator. He is originally from South Goulburn Island and his language is Mawng.
Tristin was elected to the ICIN Board by full members at the AGM, alongside returning Directors Sarah Parriman, Suzanne Thompson and Teddy Bernard and current Directors Dr Dean Yibarbuk, Cissy-Gore-Birch and Cathy Goonack.
At the AGM, members also accepted the Minutes of the 2024 AGM, accepted the Audited Financial Statements of 2024-25 and appointed the Auditor for 2025-26. Many Traditional Owners from across our membership were able to attend the meeting, including from across Arnhem Land and as far afield as the north Kimberley!
The network thanks the Gumatj clan, ALFA NT, and the ILSC for enabling this meeting to occur on country and all of the members who attended this important meeting.

The plan of management has been in the works since 2020 with all eight Tiwi clans: Jikilaruwu, Mantiyupwi, Wurankuwu, Malawu, Munupi, Wulirankuwu, Yimpinari, and Marrikawuyanga being consulted throughout the process.
Tiwi Resources has a Savanna Fire Management carbon project on the island, which supports the Tiwi Rangers early burning program and protecting important areas from damage by hot fires.

ICIN policy update
It has been a busy month for the policy team.
This month, we:
- Are continuing to advocate for the finalisation of the Savanna Fire Management methods 2025 - to make sure that members can start using these as soon as possible. The submission on the SFM Methods 2025 is available here.
-
Made a submission to the Climate Change Authority 2026 Review of the ACCU Scheme, focusing on the need to address inequity in the Scheme, remove the provision that allows for conditional registration of projects, support the development of Indigenous-led methods and more accessible methods. The full submission is available here.
-
Made a submission on the Enhancing Native Vegetation Nature Repair method, noting that this method provides limited opportunities for Indigenous groups and the Government should support the development of Indigenous-led methods. The full submission is available here.
-
Held a workshop on the proposed reforms to Commonwealth environment legislation, which were passed by Parliament on 3 December 2025. As the legislation passed before the Senate Inquiry concluded, ICIN will publish a position paper with ICIN member views on the reforms instead of a submission. We will publish this early next year.
-
Continued to work on the project to produce guidance on good agreement making for carbon projects, which expect to launch at the 2026 Savanna Fire Forum.
