May Update from the Network

13 May 2026

This is your latest update from the Network

Feedback on proposed ACCU Scheme amendments
We have had a busy couple of days, with two consultations held on proposed ACCU Scheme amendments: 1) the ICIN Full Member Consultation held last Friday 8th May and 2) the broader Indigenous consultation held on Monday 11th May.

We thank all who attended from our membership and beyond, and for important questions raised and valuable discussions. We thank Emily Gerrard for her legal perspective, and to representatives from the Government who explained the legislative changes in detail to attendees.

Don’t miss this important opportunity to have your say on changing law that looks to improve recognition of the rights of Indigenous peoples to Free, Prior and Informed Consent (FPIC) for a carbon project on their Country – a legal change ICIN has been advocating for since 2019.

This important process is continuing. The ICIN policy team is drafting our submission, which will be shared again for more input from our network.  We hope to finalise the submission with the ICIN Policy Working Group on Monday 25th May.

Reach out to Suzanne Munkara on [email protected] to contribute.

Join us for a carbon farming workshop in Boorloo (Perth)
ICIN will be delivering a free carbon farming workshop in Boorloo, next Monday 18 May, 1-4:30pm AWST. The workshop will be covering foundational information about carbon markets, the ACCU scheme, Indigenous rights and interests and FPIC.

It is open to staff working at Indigenous organisations and Indigenous people interested in carbon farming. Afternoon tea will be provided. Spots are limited, please register today before the session is full.

We look forward to seeing you there.

If you are interested, please register below as soon as possible.

ICIN at Carbon Farming Industry forum
ICIN Directors and CEO will be at the 2026 Carbon Farming Industry Forum, presented by the Carbon Market Institute. The Network will be speaking to opportunities and risks for Indigenous people in the carbon industry, nature-based economies and the importance of Country, Culture and Community.

We hope to see you there, the full program can be found below.

ICIN and CORE Markets have partnered
ICIN has partnered with CORE Markets, an expert advisory, market transactions and technology firm operating across carbon, energy and environmental markets, to deliver latest carbon market insights through quarterly workshops for ICIN members.

“This new partnership connects ICIN members with the latest carbon market information, supporting Indigenous owners of carbon projects to improve their understanding of the complex market for Australian Carbon Credit Units,” - Anna Boustead, CEO of ICIN.

Find the full announcement below.

Carbon farming EOIs open
ICIN is inviting expressions of interest from Indigenous organisations and communities interested in having a carbon farming workshop delivered out in their community. Workshops are tailored to the hosting community, and designed to cover essential information about relevant carbon methods, Indigenous rights and interests to carbon and what groups need to know before registering a project.

You can find more information about the program and fill out an EOI below.

Launch of 2026 highlights video
A massive turn out this year for the 2026 SFF and NICF. Thank you to our members, sponsors and all of the Indigenous leaders from around the country who gathered on Larrakia Country to share knowledge and best practice for the Indigenous carbon industry.

A huge shoutout to the Moogie Downs videography team for capturing it all.
