In 2025, NAIDOC Week marks 50 years of honoring and elevating Indigenous voices, culture, and resilience. We celebrate "The Next Generation: Strength, Vision & Legacy," as a theme that looks to the future with optimism. It acknowledges the strength of Indigenous young people across Australia who are backed by the visions of their communities and the legacy of their Elders.

We saw this at the 2025 North Australia Savanna Fire Forum where young people came together and shared their inspiration for getting into Savanna Fire Management. They shared that the chance to work with family and make them proud, reconnect with Country and culture, visit parts of Country that no-one else gets to see, and the sense of peace that it offers were all things that constantly encouraged them to show up in their roles. We hope that NAIDOC week offered all the incredible young people in the Network an opportunity to reflect and celebrate their achievements.
"In five years time I see myself hopefully being a coordinator or just helping younger people come up into the ranger job and just teaching them as well," Marlie Gillette, Junior Ranger, Jawoyn Association Aboriginal Corporation.

In East Arnhem Land, ICIN Full member Laynhapuy Homelands Aboriginal Corporation and Dhimurru Aboriginal Corporation are taking part in blue carbon workshops with ICIN Policy Coordinator Gen Schulz this NAIDOC Week. These sessions provide information to Indigenous land and sea management organisations on upcoming blue carbon opportunities on their sea Country by highlighting new methods and emerging case studies. These conversations are vital for ensuring the indigenous carbon industry can be carried forward by the next generation.
We hope all our members are enjoying NAIDOC celebrations happening throughout Australia.
