Public Consultation open for NT Draft Offsets Policy

The Northern Territory Government has opened public consultation for its Emissions Offsets Policy. Submissions are invited until the 15th of October 2021.

The Draft Emissions Offsets Policy forms part of a suite of initiatives that the Government is introducing to meet their 2050 net zero emissions target, including the Large Emitters Policy, which is already in force.

ICIN is alarmed to note that the caps within the Large Emitters policy are very high: 100,000t pa from direct greenhouse gas pollution, and 500,000t from land clearing.

ICIN will be working with our NT members to draft a formal submission, as well as facilitating a briefing with the Department of Environment, Parks and Water Security to seek further information.
